A story from my childhood

Trying to recollect the childhood memories at any age is not so easy task for me. Usually a picture that I see, that is very scarece in my case, brings back the story behind the scene or someone' explanation of the photograph. I am trying to relive the episode of "How I injured myself and created scar on eyebrow".

I was born in Seoul, Korea, on May 29, 1930 as the third daughter of Japanese parents. They had the first born son the next year August and went bankruptcy in their small business. They practically run off to Shenyang, Manchuria to find better opportunity in business. The Korea and Manchuria were under Japanese power in 1930 to 1945, until the end of the World War II. There were millions of Japanese people living in those countries. My parents were among those who went out of small island of Japan in search of brighter future. I can imagine how difficult for the young couple to move with the five small children aging five, four, two and one by the long train ride from Seoul to Shenyang. I had four children under age six and my husband and I never took a long trip to anywhere while they were very young.

In winter in Northern China, Shenyang it is very cold and icy. In front of the house where we lived was a side walk and a pile of snow shoveled off the walk way. The small snow hill created was a place for children's play area. It was not high but just right size for them to climb up and down for fun. I joined with my older sisters, having good time at this man made slope until my foot slept and I fell on my face. There was a sharp edge of icy snow that cut my right eyebrow deeply in to the bone. The blood gushed out profusely. My parents immediately washed the wound with hydrogen peroxide solution, perhaps dressed with the iodine gauze and bandaged. I do not remember how much I screamed or cried. Only the scar remaining to reminisce how badly everyone felt when the incident occurred.
